Children at St James
Our children are an important part of our church. We welcome all families and all age children and provide activities both within the service or in their own groups each week.
Our children's work includes: Sunday School / Pathfinders
Under 3s activity area
Books and puzzle books for older children
On 1st, 3rd and 4th Sundays during term-time, (except for Messy Church Sundays), the children and young people meet in their own groups at the same time as the morning service, learning together and sharing about their faith, using Scripture Union material and enjoying a variety of activities.
On 3rd Sundays JuniorJames@10:30 meets when there is no Messy Church and is an opportunity for children to grow in their faith through story, song, crafts and activities.
Messy Church meets at 3:30pm on alternate months on 3rd Sundays. There are no Sunday morning groups on a Messy Church Sunday. Please click here for our Messy Church page.
On the 2nd Sundays our 10.30am Family Service is enjoyed by many children of all ages, who take an active part in the readings, prayers and choosing of worship songs.
We have a play area within the main church which is equipped each week with toys and books for under 5s to enjoy during the service. It is always a joy to hear young children happily occupied during our services and no one worries about any noise that might emanate from a baby or toddler!
In the school holidays, we warmly welcome families of all ages and sizes to our 10:30am Sunday services.
At various times of the year we hold family fun afternoons. Sometimes there is a family friendly film, we do crafts and eat together: hot cross buns at Easter; Mulled wine and mince pies at Christmas!
